Recreation Task Force

Task Force Vision

With actions starting today, New Orleans will have by 2018, a nationally recognized, integrated and coordinated recreation system of parks, playgrounds, open spaces and facilities, providing spaces, activities and programs which are safe, inviting, all-inclusive, well-funded and maintained and which enhance the quality of life for all our citizens by fostering character development, an appreciation for healthy lifestyles and a respect for nature, culture and the diversity of our people.

Task Force Mission

Recreational opportunities in New Orleans are provided by a variety of organizations, including public and private entities, schools, faith-based groups and nonprofits. By creating innovative partnerships and deliberate coordination, New Orleans' youth and adults will benefit from a varied choice of affordable recreational opportunities.

The Recreation Task Force was tasked to make recommendations to the Mayor-Elect that address how to map and coordinate:

  • recreational facilities, parks and playgrounds,
  • recreational programming from arts to sports,
  • communications and outreach strategies, and
  • partnerships
