How will the downtown traffic be affected?
On May 3, 2010, The Regional Transit Authority of New Orleans will operate buses in lieu of St. Charles Avenue Streetcar service from the first morning pull-out at 3:40 a.m. until St. Charles Avenue (downtown) is cleared at approximately 1PM due to the planned Mayoral inauguration festivities. Notices will be placed on all St. Charles streetcars and on the RTA website in the days leading up to May 03, 2010, notifying the riding public of the adjustment. RTA Operators will honor all intersections that are parallel to existing St. Charles Streetcar stops as bus stops for that day to insure that citizens of New Orleans have access to their normal routine. Once the RTA is confident that the Streetcars can access the normal route, without any safety concerns being present, Streetcars will replace buses.

An educational component will be produced in the coming days, to provide information on the history of New Orleans and those who have served as its Mayor, as well as biographical information on those who will be inaugurated.

Stay tuned for more!
