Transition New Orleans Executive Summary
Five days after Mitch Landrieu was elected as the 61st Mayor of New Orleans, Transition New Orleans was launched to help prepare for when he takes office on May 3, 2010. Led by Co-chairs Judy Reese Morse and Doug Thornton, the transition team began working to identify the challenges and opportunities facing the City and provide information that will guide the new administration.

New Orleans - Mayor-elect Mitch Landrieu continues to monitor closely the emergency situation brought on by the uncontrolled flow of oil in the Gulf of Mexico, off the coast of Louisiana and the Gulf Coast, the result of the explosion on the Deep Water Horizon platform on Tuesday, April 20, 2010.

INAUGURATION COMMITTEE UNVEILS EVENTS FOR MAY 3, 2010

COMMUNITY MEETING SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED
Transition New Orleans announced several community meetings developed to gather public input on topics ranging from criminal justice to housing. The information will be considered by task forces of community leaders and experts that were created to advise Landrieu as he prepares to take office. Each meeting will feature a question developed by the task force to frame the discussion. All are encouraged to attend and share their ideas.

NOPD Task Force Progress Report: International Group Recruits Candidates for Police Chief
The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), the world's leading association of law enforcement executives, has begun recruiting candidates for the next Superintendent of the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD). Transition New Orleans engaged the DC-based nonprofit to assist the NOPD Task Force with the national search.

Mayor-elect Mitch Landrieu announced the co-chairs of Transition New Orleans Task Forces, which will make recommendations on the major issues facing the city from blight and housing to neighborhood development and city financing. Mayor-elect Landrieu announces NOPD Task Force

Since Saturday night's election, Mitch has received calls from President Obama and other national leaders offering their support for New Orleans.  Well wishers include former President Clinton, federal cabinet secretaries, such as Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Sec. Shaun Donovan (HUD), Sec. Arne Duncan (Education), Sec. Janet Napolitano (Homeland Security), Sec. Landrieu Announces Transition Team Co-Chairs
Today, Mitch announced the co-chairs of his transition team. Judy Reese Morse and Doug Thornton will chair Transition New Orleans. "We're calling on a new generation of leaders to move our city forward," Mitch said. "I'm committed to building a diverse team of professionals to help run the city.â€
